Dog Bite/Animal Attack Attorneys in Ogden, Utah

Utah Dog Bite Lawyers

An owner or keeper of a dog is liable for injuries caused by the dog, regardless of whether the dog is, or is known to be, vicious or mischievous.  Utah Code Ann. 18-1-1.  Typically, a dog owner’s or keeper’s homeowner’s or renter’s policy of liability insurance can provide compensation to persons injured by the dog.

Dogs attack children and adults in roughly equal proportion, but the severity of the injuries resulting from dog bites varies greatly.  Experience and insurance claim data shows that certain breeds of dogs are more often involved in attacks and the resulting insurance claims.  Additionally, an insurance carrier may require a policyholder to disclose ownership of certain breeds of dogs.

Dog and animal attacks can be extremely traumatic, both physically and psychologically.  Medical treatment may require closure of wounds and antibiotic treatment.  If noticeable scarring results, it may be important to have a qualified medical professional, such as a dermatologist or plastic surgeon, document and evaluate the scarring for possible revision procedures.  Any ongoing psychological impairment should also be treated and documented.
